Florian Wirtz unlikely to leave Bayer Leverkusen before 2025

A generational talent, interest is Florian Wirtz is always going to be heightened. But speaking exclusively to Sky Germany, Hans-Joachim Wirtz, father and agent of Florian, expects his son will remain at Bayer Leverkusen next season.

Wirtz has eight goal contributions (three goals and five assists) in 13 Bundesliga games this season and his performances under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso has placed Leverkusen top of the Bundesliga. Die Werkself remain the only unbeaten club across all competitions in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

“At the moment, everything is geared towards Florian playing in Leverkusen next season,” Hans-Joachim Wirtz.

Although Wirtz’ focus at the moment is on Bayer Leverkusen and Euro 2024, it was reported last month that the player would favour a move to Bayern Munich rather than abroad. As reported by Sky Germany, a transfer for Wirtz would only be conceivable in 2025, which has now been confirmed by his father.

Wirtz has attracted interest from Bayern, Barcelona and Real Madrid, but holds a contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2027. Under Alonso, the Germany international has scored 10 and created 18 in 44 games across all competitions, and is also expected to be one of the main pillars in the national team, alongside Jamal Musiala, when Germany host Euro 2024 in the summer.
