Werder Bremen reach agreement to sign Maximilian Philipp

Werder Bremen confirm today that they’ve reached an agreement with Wolfsburg to sign Maximilian Philipp on loan for the remainder of the season, subject to the German forward passing a medical.

Philipp has played just three Bundesliga games at Wolfsburg this season but has credible experience gained during his time at Freiburg, Borussia Dortmund and VfL, scoring 27 goals and creating 15 in 137 Bundesliga games. The 28-year-old also spent a season at Dinamo Moscow before returning to Germany.

Werder Bremen also confirmed that Oliver Burke would leave the club on loan, subject to the Scottish forward passing a medical, although they haven’t named the club that the 25-year-old will join.

Ole Werner’s side started 2023 with successive defeats against Cologne and Union Berlin before beating Wolfsburg 2-1 on Saturday. 10th in the Bundesliga table, Bremen are eight points clear of the relegation playoff and eight points behind Eintracht Frankfurt, who occupy sixth.
