Wataru Endo set for Liverpool medical today

According to multiple reports, VfB Stuttgart midfielder Wataru Endo is set for his Liverpool medical today ahead of a €20m move to the Premier League side.

The fee for the midfielder will be €20m but with €5m in add-ons, the fee could possibly rise to €25m, which is a high fee for a 30-year-old midfielder whose contract expires next summer.

The money received will allow Stuttgart to bring in a replacement for their captain but it is unlikely to be before their Bundesliga opener against Bochum on Saturday.

Stuttgart have allowed their most important player to leave the club this summer as he has previously made it known that he would like to play in the Premier League at some point in his career. There were talks of a potential contract extension for Endo but Stuttgart had postponed further talks until after the transfer window.

Endo has been one of Stuttgart’s most consistent players since his arrival from Sint Truiden in 2019. The 30-year-old has helped the club escape relegation over the past two seasons with his most notable contribution being a last-minute header to beat 1.FC Köln 2-1 on the final day of the 21/22 season and secure Stuttgart’s safety.

The departure of Endo not only leaves a hole in Stuttgart’s midfield but the club also loses a leader.
