Union Berlin joins TransferRoom to increase market opportunities

Bundesliga side Union Berlin, who took part in this season’s Champions League for the first time in their history, have joined TransferRoom as they look to increase market opportunities.

“The accessibility to so many clubs, the direct access to the clubs, especially when it comes to transfer talks, is the biggest benefit,” explained Union Technical Director Michael Parensen.

“The fact that you have really short routes to transfer business, that you have a wide range of options, especially when you consider that you’re talking about the players. If you have players in the squad where you’re looking to make a change, then I think it’s a very good opportunity to use this network to have as many contacts as possible.

“We are confident that, through the contacts and through the direct channels to decision-makers, we will get quick decisions and we will get a variety of opportunities. And that is the main route we are looking for with TransferRoom.

“Apart from that, it’s also about recruiting, perhaps to see other markets where we’re not that well represented. I’d say, in Europe perhaps, we’re represented quite well, but we’re not yet so well represented worldwide and we didn’t have access to all markets. TransferRoom will definitely play a role in enabling us to gain more opportunities globally.”

TransferRoom is a platform that facilitates contact between club representatives, like a football social network, and is now used by 50% of all clubs in the Bundesliga, including Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Stuttgart – as well as 50% of clubs in the 2. Bundesliga and 100% of clubs in the 3. Liga.

The platform was launched in 2017 and has facilitated more than 4000 transfers of professional footballers, including Viktor Gyökeres’ €20m move from Coventry City to Sporting CP in the summer- the biggest deal to date on TransferRoom.

Their aim is to break down barriers in the transfer market for clubs, agencies and players in order to help them unlock new opportunities and accelerate their deal success.

Jonas Ankersen, CEO of TransferRoom, added: “You can see TransferRoom as football’s marketplace for clubs to quickly and easily identify potential transfer targets, without having to waste time and resources on multiple phone calls, emails and meetings.

“The platform allows clubs to share their specific requirements, and it offers transparency by enabling other clubs to view those requirements and respond accordingly. This facilitates a more open and fair market for transfer talks and deals.”
