TSG Hoffenheim set to return to 50+1 as Dietmar Hopp plans to return voting rights

According to Kicker, TSG Hoffenheim are about to return to the 50 plus 1 rule.

The club’s owner Dietmar Hopp is set to return his majority voting rights to TSG Hoffenheim Fußball-Spielbetriebs GmbH and therefore return the club to operating under the 50 plus 1. However, this does not mean that Hopp will withdraw from his position within the club.

Alongside Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim were one of three Bundesliga clubs that have funding exceptions. There is also RB Leipzig who get around the 50 plus 1 rule by having only a few members who mostly operate within the RB Group.

Hopp will still hold the majority of shares at Hoffenheim but the passing over of voting rights would allow members to choose the course of the club in the future.

Some fans may see this as a timely announcement as Hoffenheim are currently in the relegation zone and without a Bundesliga win in 12 matches.
