Tottenham Hotspur initiate contact with Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba

Fabrizio Romano reports that Tottenham Hotspur have initiated contact with Bayer Leverkusen central defender Edmond Tapsoba.

Tottenham have held a long-standing interest in the 24-year-old and are exploring the conditions of how a deal could be worked out with both the player and Leverkusen. Tapsoba is interested in taking the move to the Premier League.

Tapsoba joined Leverkusen in 2020 from Vitória Guimarães for €20.2m, and ever since his move the Burkina Faso international has been a mainstay of Leverkusen’s defence under four different managers. A departure of the 24-year-old will likely force Leverkusen to enter the market for another centre-back as Jonathan Tah is also reportedly interested in leaving the club this summer.

Last season, Tapsoba played 47 times for Leverkusen as they were able to turn their season around under Xabi Alonso to finish in a Europa League place, while also making it to the Europa League semi-finals where they lost to runners-up Roma 1-0 on aggregate.
