“This is still the best story of the season” – Edin Terzić

The Meisterschale is now in touching distance for Borussia Dortmund, as they face Mainz on Saturday in what will feel like Die Schwarzgelben’s most significant game in recent years.

“Of course it is a very special week. We played our way into a situation that triggered a lot of euphoria. The key, despite a special week, is that you don’t do anything special. It’s just repeating all the things we’ve done well,” said Edin Terzić.

Terzić was then questioned about the mentality of his squad: We know that there is an important game and all the things that go with it – moments that go well, moments that go badly, refereeing decisions, penalties. But we start with eleven players who want to win the game.”

There have been moments over the course of the season where the pressure has been too much for BVB, but Terzić insists that his side are prepared. As for himself: Many boys and girls want to be there on the last day of the game. I won’t let that get to me.”

Terzić would continue by explaining: “I can say that it’s probably the most beautiful game that’s waiting for me. The tension is usually greater the day before than on the day of the match itself. But now it’s not about how I feel, it’s about what I can give to the team.”

As for the availability of the squad, Terzić commented: “The only one who will definitely fail is Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. With Jude, there is a question mark.” However, the Dortmund boss was eager to point out the importance of Sebastian Haller: “This is still the best story of the season,” he explained before continuing: “It was his will, diligence and positive energy that got him there. He made our attacking play better.”

A victory against Mainz on Matchday 34 would see Die Schwarzgelben be crowned champions of Germany for the first time in 11 years. However, what may be greater is the achievement of Haller: “He can show that he can become our hero of the season.”
