Stuttgart interested in Union Berlin’s Genki Haraguchi

Speaking after Stuttgart’s 2-1 defeat at RB Leipzig, Sporting Director Fabian Wohlgemuth has confirmed that the Bundesliga club are interested in Union Berlin’s Genki Haraguchi with talks between all parties currently ongoing.

VfB have been interested in a midfielder for most of the window, but Haraguchi is a slightly different to the player Josuha Guilavogui, a target of Bruno Labbadia. Another option for VfB is Hugo Vetlesen of Bodo/Glimt but Stuttgart have had an offer rejected for the 22-year-old.

Haraguchi (31) joined Union in 2021 on a free transfer from Hannover 96 and has made 60 appearances for the team since, scoring twice. However, this season he has not seen the same amount of playing time having only appeared in 10 of Union games in the league.

Stuttgart currently have four senior midfielders but with the future of Naouirou Ahamada unknown with interest from Crystal Palace, then extra reinforcements are needed.
