Sebastian Kehl praises improved Karim Adeyemi

Borussia Dortmund Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl has praised the development of Karim Adeyemi (21). The German forward has scored in successive Bundesliga games, his first league goals of the season.

“He’s made a real step forward in the last three games,” said Kehl, via Ruhr Nachrichten. “Karim worked hard and of course we had a lot of talks. I think he understood that he has to do more than what he showed in the first six months. He expects the same from himself.”

Not only that, Adeyemi set a new Bundesliga record against Freiburg at the weekend after reaching a top speed of 22.77mph (36.65 km/h), becoming the fastest player since records began in 2011/12.

Adeyemi, who joined from RB Salzburg last summer for a reported €30m, scored his maiden Bundesliga goal against Bayer Leverkusen on January 29 before scoring against Freiburg a week later. A new role, defensive contributions and significantly improved performances, only now does it feel as though Adeyemi has truly arrived at the Signal Iduna Park.

With four successive wins in 2023, Borussia Dortmund are now back in the title fight and are just three points behind leaders Bayern Munich, who beat Wolfsburg 4-2 on Sunday. Unfortunately for Adeyemi, he misses BVB’s DFB Pokal game against Bochum and the trip to Werder Bremen after accumulating yellow cards.
