Season over for Bayer Leverkusen duo Odilon Kossounou and Robert Andrich

Bayer Leverkusen have today confirmed that Odilon Kossounou and Robert Andrich will be out for the remainder of the season after picking up injuries in Thursday’s 1-0 defeat against AS Roma.

Kossounou was substituted after just 36 minutes and B04 confirmed that the Ivorian defender had suffered a muscle injury in his right thigh, ending his season prematurely. Under Xabi Alonso, the 22-year-old played 35 games across all competitions this season.

Andrich also suffered a fracture in his left metatarsal and will be out for several months. It’s another loss for Die Werkself with Andrich becoming a key player this season, featuring 41 times this season.

Eight points behind the final Champions League spot with nine points available, it’s unlikely that they’ll make the top four but a European place finish is still the goal for Alonso and Leverkusen.

They travel to Stuttgart on Sunday afternoon before games against Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bochum to end their Bundesliga season, whilst they’ll still have hope of making the Europa League final.

Leverkusen’s game against Roma on Thursday was their first European semi-final in 21 years and 1-0 down on aggregate, they’ll believe that they can overturn the deficit at the BayArena.
