Rouven Schröder to join RB Leipzig as Sporting Director

As reported by Sport Bild, Rouven Schröder is set to become RB Leipzig’s Sporting Director after leaving his role at Schalke back in October.

Nothing has been signed yet by the two parties but Schalke are set to receive around €500k for Schröder, who can join Leipzig as early as March 1. The 47-year-old has held similar positions at Mainz, Werder Bremen and Greuther Fürth.

The incoming Schröder will form a team with managing sports director Max Eberl who joined Leipzig in December having been clubless since leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach last January.

Leipzig are currently fourth in the Bundesliga and four points off leaders Bayern Munich after they comfortably beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 on Saturday thanks to goals from Timo Werner and Emil Forsberg. They face a tough test next Friday in the league as they play Borussia Dortmund.

Schröder’s former club Schalke are currently last in the Bundesliga but improved their chances of survival with a 2-1 win against VfB Stuttgart at the weekend.
