Real Madrid target Xabi Alonso as their future head coach

As reported via Bild, Real Madrid are hopeful of appointing Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso as their future head coach.

It is understood that current Real Madrid head coach, and former Bayern Munich manager, Carlo Ancelotti will move on in the summer of 2024. The Italian is lined up to become the next manager of the Brazil national team, leaving the hot seat open at the Bernabeu.

Radio Marca have reported that Xabi Alonso will become the successor to Ancelotti in the summer. An excellent start to the season for Die Werkself has convinced those in charge at Los Blancos that their former midfielder will be the best option to lead the club forward.

Alonso was targeted by Real in Spring. However, during the summer, the 41-year-old committed his short-term future to Leverkusen by extending his contract with the club until 2026. Nevertheless, Bild understand that the Werkself will not stand in the way of Alonso if a superclub like Real Mardid attempt to lure their exciting head coach away.

Regardless, the Spaniard is considered to be happy at the BayArena and is not thinking about an exit yet. After signing an extended deal in the summer, Alonso would comment: “There were many reasons. We share the vision for the club, we all have ambitions. I’m happy here. I have the desire to be good here, to improve the team and myself. That is my big goal.”

While departing for the bright lights of the Bernabeu looks all but certain, Alonso will undoubtedly keep his focus on the task at hand with Leverkusen as they look to challenge Bayern for the Meisterschale this season.
