Ramy Bensebaini’s role at Borussia Dortmund is under scrutiny

On Saturday, Borussia Dortmund host Bayern Munich in a highly anticipated Der Klassiker. However, one member of the Dortmund squad may be left out of the side if he fails to impress against Hoffenheim in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday.

Ramy Bensebaini joined Die Schwarzgelben in the summer from Borussia Mönchengladbach on a free transfer, but with constant mistakes plaguing his performances, Dortmund are yet to see the best from the Algerian full-back. With zero goal contributions in eight appearances, his latest performance away at Eintracht Frankfurt saw him at fault for two goals.

This is something that BvB sporting director Sebastian Kehl would note after the game against Die Adler: “You could see that the Frankfurt team were more successful on this side. And yes, we may have made mistakes in positioning, teamwork, and shifting. We can do that better. I think Ramy has already played stable games this season; he is not solely responsible. But he can also solve situations better in one place or another.”

Nevertheless, with Jamal Musiala, Kingsley Coman, and Leroy Sané set to turn up at the Westfalenstadion on matchday ten, Edin Terzić cannot afford to take any risks. Therefore, the Dortmund head coach would more than likely place Julian Ryerson on the left-hand side, with Marius Wolf returning to right-back.

However, a lack of quality at full-back is something that has been acknowledged at the club. As previously reported, Kehl and Terzić have identified this as a problem area, and it would not be surprising if Dortmund act upon this in January or the summer.
