Preview | Borussia Dortmund vs Borussia Mönchengladbach

Borussia Dortmund will be hoping that the international break will give them a positive reset as they return to Bundesliga action against Borussia Mönchengladbach tomorrow.

Dortmund entered the international break by coming off the back of two losses and a draw in the previous three games.

Edin Terzić’s side had an impressive start to the season but have now slipped ten points behind the league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Their first loss at home in 2023 came just three weeks ago against Bayern Munich which also saw their 17-game unbeaten run come to an end. Another defeat followed as Dortmund were beaten by Stuttgart, making them fall to fifth in the table.

The visitors are currently in 9th place after having a very mixed season so far with three wins, four draws and four losses.

However, in recent matches there have been signs of big improvements after just two points were collected from their opening five games.

Gladbach have collected seven points from their last three games and have been scoring plenty of goals recently as they defeated Wolfsburg 4-0 in their last game and scored three goals past Freiburg the week before in a 3-3 draw.

Team News

Borussia Dortmund’s goalkeeper Gregor Kobel was sent home early from camp with the Switzerland national team after gaining a muscular injury. It is unsure whether he will play yet as he faces a race to get fit.

Alexander Meyer will be likely to replace Kobel if needed.

Felix Nmecha will also be out of the squad tomorrow as he picked up a hip injury in the recent loss to Stuttgart which ruled him out of the Germany squad.

Emre Can could return to the team after recovering from a thigh injury.

Gladbach have plenty of injuries to deal with as goalkeeper Jonas Omlin is ruled out with a shoulder injury whilst defensive duo Ko Itakura and Tony Janstchke are also injured.

Hannes Wolf also has a knee injury.

Despite all of these injuries there was some delightful news for the club as Stefan Laimer has returned to training after recovering from cancer which he had been battling over the past few months.
