Official | Werder Bremen sign Naby Keïta from Liverpool

Werder Bremen has signed former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keïta on a free transfer, the club have announced

Keïta had previously been linked to a number of Bundesliga clubs when his contract with Liverpool was not going to be extended beyond June 2023. Some of these clubs included Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.

However, the 28-year-old has chosen the North German side as his next destination, signing a contract until June 2026.

Keïta joined Liverpool at the beginning of the 2018/19 campaign after agreeing a deal with his former employers RB Leipzig the season prior. Liverpool beat many European clubs to the signing after Keïta’s phenomenal performances in his first season in Leipzig.

However, after a disappointing last season for the side from Saxony, injuries would plague the midfielder during his time for Liverpool. Despite this, Keïta would still go on to win seven trophies with the English giants making 129 appearances in all competitions.

It’s a superb signing for Bremen and a real statement of intent. Should they be able to keep Keïta fit and in the team, it will help the overall success of the team by quite a bit.

Upon signing, the midfielder said: “I was impressed by what the club told me about the setup here and Werder’s style of play. The coach gave me a really good feeling and showed how I can help the team. Werder is a special club and I know the Weserstadion from my time with Leipzig. This club and its philosophy will be a good match for me, so this is the right step for my career.”
