Werder Bremen have announced the contract extension of head coach Ole Werner.
However, the Green and Whites have not declared any details about the length of the extension. Werner led Bremen back to the Bundesliga with a second-place finish in the second tier in the 2021/22 campaign, before guiding the side to safety in the Bundesliga this season.
Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann would explain the decision: “Ole Werner and his team have done some incredible work, namely our promotion from Bundesliga 2 and then our subsequent survival in the top flight.” Baumann would add: “He took over the side during an extremely difficult period in late 2021 and managed to form a successful team whilst playing an attractive style of football.”
Baumann would conclude with the remark: “With his personality and idea of playing, he played a big part in us securing safety with a matchday to spare as a promoted side. We were never even in the relegation zone this season.”
Clemens Fritz, head of scouting and professional football, further added: “You can see that Ole feels right at home in Bremen and fully identifies with Werder. His qualities as a coach help to develop the team and each individual player. He also feels that he can continue to develop himself and he’s eager to learn new things. We’re therefore delighted that he will continue to work with us here at Werder,”
An excitable Werner would also explain: “My time so far at Werder has been successful and positive in almost every regard.” Werner would then speak about the future: “We’re in the process of developing a team that can establish itself in the long run in the Bundesliga. I’m pleased to take on this challenge because I feel like everybody here is working together towards the same common goal.”
The coaching team around Werner will also remain the same for the foreseeable future. A 13th-place finish in the Bundesliga is a fantastic foundation for Werner and Werder to build upon and the future at the Weserstadion looks bright.
