Official | Schalke announce the signing of Paul Seguin from Union Berlin

Schalke have announced the signing of Union Berlin midfielder Paul Seguin for an undisclosed fee.

Since their relegation from the Bundesliga, Schalke have been planning their recruitment for a straight return to the Bundesliga. After the arrival of Paderborn midfielder Ron Schallenberg, Seguin is the next to sign for Die Königsblauen on a three-year deal until 2026.

Speaking about the new signing, Schalke’s new sporting director André Hechelmann would say: “We are delighted that we have been able to bring Paul to Schalke. He is very versatile in his position, both in attack and in defence. He has a good understanding of the game and he’ll be able to create promising attacking situations with his strong passing ability.”

Schalke head coach Thomas Reis would then comment: “Paul has a good awareness of the spaces and the runs, so he’ll create good opportunities for us from deep. These are exactly the qualities that we’ll need in order to create and take advantage of goalscoring opportunities,” before adding: “He knows what it means to deal with the pressure of a promotion battle and to make the leap into the Bundesliga from his time at Fürth.”

Seguin would then remark on why he chose to join Schalke: “The management have explained the interesting path that they would like to take in the talks and I’m looking to embarking upon it with the team here at Schalke. I’m looking forward to playing in front of S04’s passionate supporters in the stadium.”

The German midfielder joined Union Berlin last summer from relegated Greuther Fürth on a free transfer. The 28-year-old would feature 23 times for Die Eisernen in all competitions scoring one goal and collecting three assists, helping Union qualify for the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
