Official | RB Leipzig sign Christoph Baumgartner from TSG Hoffenheim

RB Leipzig have announced the signing of Christoph Baumgartner from TSG Hoffenheim.

The 23-year-old Austrian international has signed a five-year contract with the Saxons, keeping him at the club until 2028. Baumgartner is now the second most expensive player that Leipzig have ever purchased, signing for around €27m.

The signing of Baumgartner is Leipzig’s fourth of the summer. Before the end of the season, Leipzig had already agreed on deals for Benjamin Seško and Nicolas Seiwald of Red Bull Salzburg. At the end of the season, the Saxons announced the signing of Leopold Zingerle from Paderborn as a backup goalkeeper.

Baumgartner could possibly act as a replacement for Dominik Szoboszlai as the Hungarian is likely to move on this summer.

Baumgartner played 33 times for Hoffenheim this season scoring seven and assisting seven as they escaped relegation after a turnaround under Pellegrino Matarazzo. The Austrian came up big in the run-in with important contributions in wins against Werder Bremen, Eintracht Frankfurt and relegation rivals Schalke.
