Official | Max Eberl released by RB Leipzig with immediate effect

RB Leipzig have announced that sporting director Max Eberl has been released by RB Leipzig with immediate effect.

In a statement on the club’s website, Leipzig confirms that Rouven Schröder will replace Eberl: “RB Leipzig releases Max Eberl with immediate effect. The lack of commitment to the club leads us to this decision. This happens completely independent of the squad change and the sporting results. Sports director Rouven Schröder takes over the sports management. We thank Max for his work and wish him all the best for the future.”

The sporting director had only taken the position at Leipzig in December last year having had a break from football after leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach earlier in 2022. Recently, Eberl has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich to take up a vacant position on the club’s board but Eberl has failed to deny the rumours surrounding his future at Leipzig recently.

This likely means that Eberl’s next job will be in Munich as the former Borussia Mónchengladbach sporting director has always dreamed of being involved at Bayern according to Bild, as he is a product of the club’s youth academy while also owning a house in the city. Uli Hoeneß is also a big fan of Eberl due to his work in the transfer market especially with the recent signings of Xavi Simons and Loïs Openda at Leipzig.
