Official | Franck Honorat joins Borussia Mönchengladbach for €8m

Borussia Mönchengladbach have announced that they have completed the signing of Stade Brest winger Franck Honorat.

The 26-year-old joins Gladbach for €8m and signs a contract at the club until 2028. On his move to the Bundesliga, Honorat said: “I am very happy to be here and look forward to getting to know all the players, the club and all the new things that are yet to come and getting started on the pitch.”

Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus also commented on why they moved for Honorat: “Franck is a player who can be used on both offensive outer lanes, who is fast, can score goals and also prepare. We have been following his path for a long time and are pleased that he absolutely wanted to come to us despite other offers.”

Honorat is set to be the replacement for Jonas Hofmann, who last week surprisingly joined Bayer Leverkusen for €10m due to a release clause in his contract. Looking at the data of the two wingers, Hofmann and Honorat are very similar in play styles, with the only big difference being their output as was Honorat playing for a weaker team last season.

The arrival of the Frenchman will be Gladbach’s sixth signing of the summer after the arrivals of Lukas Ullrich (Hertha Berlin), Julian Weigl (Benfica), Grant-Leon Ranos (Bayern Munich), Robin Hack (Arminia Bielefeld) and Fabio Chiarodia (Werder Bremen).
