Official | Davie Selke joins FC Köln from Hertha Berlin

FC Köln have announced the signing of Davie Selke from Hertha Berlin. The striker joins the Billy Goats on a free transfer as Hertha didn’t want to jeopardise the player’s transfer.

Selke completed his medical on Monday morning and has signed a contract until 2024.

The striker has been with Hertha since 2017 and made over 75 appearances for the club. Having fallen out of favour with the club, the former German youth international had been on loan with Werder Bremen for a year and a half until 2021.

This season, the 27-year-old forward has played 13 Bundesliga matches, 10 of which have been from the bench. During these games, Selke has scored one goal from the penalty spot in a memorable 3-2 victory over Bayern Munich.

Köln have struggled in attack following the departure of Anthony Modeste to Borussia Dortmund. Attacking-midfielder Florian Kainz is the club’s top scorer in the Bundesliga this season followed by Dejan Ljubicic and Steffen Tigges, both on three league goals.

Selke’s first game with Köln will be against Werder Bremen on January 21.
