Official | Daley Blind joins Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have tonight announced the signing of 32-year-old Dutch defender Daley Blind on a free transfer. The former Manchester United and Ajax defender has signed a six-month contract.

“We are really pleased that Daley have joined the team,” said Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidžić. “Daley is a versatile defender who can play on the left-hand side as well as in the centre. He has lots of international experience and leadership qualities. I am confident that he will be able to help us.”

Blind, who recently terminated his contract at Ajax, joins the Rekordmeister on a short-term contract, and will act as cover for Lucas Hernandez, who suffered an ACL rupture whilst on World Cup duty with France.

The Dutchman completed his medical on Thursday morning and will travel with his new teammates to Doha for Bayern Munich’s winter training camp. Blind’s contract termination came somewhat as a surprise, considering the defender had played 19 games across all competitions for Ajax this season.

Four points clear after 15 games, Bayern Munich resume their Bundesliga campaign against RB Leipzig on January 20. The signing of Blind will also bring an immense amount of experience and leadership to the club as they challenge for another Champions League title.
