Marcus Thuram: “Borussia will always have a special place in my heart.”

Marcus Thuram will be leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach at the end of the season when his contract expires. Speaking ahead of their Bundesliga game against Bayer Leverkusen, the France international looked back on what has been an exciting journey, and one of development.

“I just want to enjoy my last two games for Borussia and be able to look back on all the incredible moments I have experienced here,” said Thuram. Assessing his time in Germany, the Frenchman added: “The past four years have been fantastic.

“I came here as a young player and I developed enormously. It was amazing to be able to compete in the Champions League with Borussia and to play my way into the national team through good performances. I owe so much to this club and I’ll never forget what it has done for me. Borussia will always have a special place in my heart.”

It’s been somewhat of a disappointing season for Borussia Mönchengladbach but one that Thuram can look back upon. The Frenchman enjoyed his best goal return with 13 goals and five assists in 28 Bundesliga games, excellent numbers considering Thuram missed a huge chunk of last season with an injury.

It’s unclear as to where Thuram will be playing his football next season, but he won’t be short on offers.

And as for Borussia Mönchengladbach, they will rebuild over the summer. Joe Scally has signed a new contract but Florian Neuhaus is yet to do so as he enters the final 12 months of his contract. As well as Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini will also leave the club in the summer when his contract expires, with Borussia Dortmund his likely destination.
