Marco Rose wary of Union Berlin threat

Speaking ahead of RB Leipzig’s game against Union Berlin on Saturday evening, Marco Rose discussed his opponents with both teams involved in the fight for the Bundesliga title.

“It’s very difficult to get chances against Union Berlin,” said Rose. “Up front they are extremely dangerous with set pieces and in transitions. They don’t need a lot of chances to score, so they’re very effective.”

RB Leipzig (4th) are just three points behind Union Berlin (2nd) and it’s a game that neither team will want to lose. Die Roten Bullen are unbeaten in their last 18 games across all competitions.

“It was and is always difficult against Union Berlin and it won’t be easy on Saturday either,” added Rose. “But we are also in a good mood at the moment and have had a good start to the new year. Now we have a home game and we have ambitious goals.”

Speaking on Leipzig’s gameplan, Rose added: “We want to play a good game. We want to defend ourselves and of course we want to be dominant at home. We have to fulfill the tasks that Union Berlin set for us. If we can do that, we have a good chance of succeeding.”

RB Leipzig received a boost this week with the return of Christopher Nkunku to training, but the game against Union will come too soon for the Frenchman. Nkunku, who trained individually, will be reintegrated back into the squad next week and could feature against Wolfsburg on February 18.

Rose is also likely without Willi Orban, who underwent a blood stem cell donation after being found as a potential match for someone with blood cancer.

Playing against Bochum earlier in the day, Bayern Munich can extend their lead in the Bundesliga to four points before RB Leipzig host Union Berlin.
