Lukas Ullrich set to join Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer

Rheinische Post reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach are set to sign Lukas Ullrich from Hertha Berlin, whose contract expires in the summer.

Ullrich will likely play back up to Luca Netz who is to become Gladbach’s first choice left back with the departure of Ramy Bensebaini in the summer who is reportedly going to join Borussia Dortmund. Gladbach were previously interested in the 19-year-old when his youth contract at Hertha expired, but he stayed in the capital.

The 19-year-old has been part of Hertha’s training camp previously but has never featured for the first team. This season he has played mainly for Hertha’s u23 team in the Regionalliga Nordost while also captaining the u19 German national team.

The left-back will follow in the footsteps of Netz who moved from Hertha to Gladbach two years ago. Unlike Netz, Gladbach will not have to pay a type of fee.
