Konstantinos Mavropanos open to leaving VfB Stuttgart this January

Konstantinos Mavropanos is open to leaving VfB Stuttgart this January, according to Florian Plettenburg.

As per the report, the Greek international is keen to take the next step in his career. For such reasons, he is open to an exit this winter if the right opportunity should arise. If not, the forward will most likely be sold in the summer.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Atlético de Madrid in recent weeks. However, due to financial fair play reasons, the Spanish side can’t purchase him in January and a loan with an obligation to buy deal is also off the table. Several English clubs are also monitoring the situation.

It’s no secret that Stuttgart are struggling financially and a potential sale of Mavropanos would go a long way to resolving that. Likewise would a sale of Borna Sosa (24). Either transfer will not be cheap and give Stuttgart money to spend in this following summer.

It feels like a stick or twist moment for Stuttgart. Should they cash in on one of their top players this winter to help the club’s financial situation or keep their assets until the summer and hope that they keep them in the league? Stuttgart are currently 16th in the table and play mid-table Mainz 05 in their first game back on January 21st.
