Julian Nagelsmann wants Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to extend his contract at Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann has publicly announced he wishes forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to extend his contract at the club, according to Kicker.

The Cameroonian international’s contract runs out this year and has played a crucial role in Bayern’s season both domestically and in Europe. Since the departure of Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona, Bayern have struggled without an out-and-out number 9.

However, Choupo-Moting’s introduction to the starting 11 proved vital as he’s scored six and assisted two in his last six Bundesliga games. The forward’s reintroduction to the team also coincided with Bayern’s rise up the table and back into 1st before the winter break.

During a press conference, Nagelsmann doesn’t mix his words when talking about Choupo-Moting: “Of course, it’s good if you have talks with him and try to extend them. If he keeps his diligence, he will also play a major role in the second half of the season.”

The coach goes on to explain: “And when you have a striker who scores so many goals, it always makes sense to keep him in your own ranks.”

Talks have been ongoing since the end of the World Cup but there has been no news as to how close both pirates are to a deal.
