Ipswich Town and Watford interested in former Union Berlin defender Niko Gießelmann

Kicker reports that Ipswich Town and Watford are interested in former Union Berlin defender Niko Gießelmann who is now a free agent.

The 31-year-old left Union after his contract expired at the end of the season. The left-back continues to look for a new club with Ipswich and Watford having shown interest. Watford’s current coach Valerien Ismael was Gießelmann’s coach at Hannover under-23 which could end up drawing him to Hertfordshire.

However, it has also been reported that Gießelmann would like to stay in Germany and the 31-year-old has also been linked with Schalke. Schalke currently has only one senior left-back at the club and have also shown interest in the defender.

After being a part of the Union starting 11 for the majority of the first half of the season, the arrival of Jerômé Rousslion and Josip Juranovic in January ultimately meant that Gießelmann began to start less and less for Union.
