Hoffenheim set to sign Wout Weghorst on a season long loan

Bild reports that Hoffenheim are set to complete the signing of former Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst on a season-long loan from Burnley.

Hoffenheim have been looking for a new striker for the start of the new season and even considered re-signing Georginio Rutter on a season-long loan from Leeds United but now Weghorst will return to the Bundesliga.

Weghorst left Wolfsburg for Burnley in January 2022 for €17.5m but was unable to help them escape relegation. The 31-year-old then spent half of last season on loan at Besiktas in Turkey and the second half at Manchester United in the Premier League.

The 31-year-old was an everpresent goalscoring threat during his previous spell in Germany. In 118 games for Wolfsburg, the Dutch international finished with 59 goals and 20 assists. If he is able to hit the ground running on his return he will be of great help to Hoffenheim as they try to not get caught in a relegation battle this season.

Hoffenheim begin their Bundesliga campaign at home against Freiburg on the 19th August.
