Hoffenheim close to an agreement with Fenerbahce for Attila Szalai

Sky Germany reports that Hoffenheim are close to reaching an agreement with Fenerbahce over the transfer of defender Attila Szalai.

The final details of the fee still need to be agreed upon, but it is likely the fee will be in the region of €15m. The director of football at Hoffenheim, Alexander Rosen wants Szalai to be the main leader within the team’s defence. The 25-year-old is also interested in moving to the Bundesliga side.

Union Berlin had also been linked to Szalai, but Kicker reports that the 25-year-old was not an option at the club and that they are still looking at other central defender options.

Last season, Szalai played 52 times for Fenerbache as the club finished second in the league behind rivals Galatasaray.

The 25-year-old will add more youth to Hoffenheim’s defence as they had to rely on John Anthony Brooks, Ermin Bicakcic and Kevin Vogt at times, alongside Ozan Kabak, Stanley N’Soki and Kevin Akpoguma.
