Hasan Salihamidžić: “Mathys Tel has everything to become a very good player.”

Bayern Munich’s Hasan Salihamidžić has praised the development of 17-year-old forward Mathys Tel. Speaking to Kicker, Salihamidžić discussed the Frenchman’s potential, mentality and his best position.

“He feels very comfortable in the middle, as a centre forward or a false nine,” said Salihamidžić. “If Mathys comes from the left, he can get into goalscoring positions a bit better. He has everything a really good offensive player needs.”

Tel has scored four goals in a total of 226 minutes across the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal for Bayern Munich this season, Salihamidžić added that the Frenchman is: “very ambitious, greedy, hard-working and has a top mentitaly,” further stating that the 17-year-old, “works on his days off.”

Bayern Munich paid French side Rennes €20m to sign the youngster, a considerable investment given that he had played just 79 minutes for the first team.

Salihamidžić added: “Mathys has everything it takes to become a very good player. If he continues like this, he has a great future ahead of him. That’s why we will build it [his development] up carefully.”

Tel (17) has a contract with the Rekordmeister until 2025 and is part of Bayern’s future alongside Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala. Speaking late last year to Sport1, Tel stated that he was happy with the early progress made at Bayern Munich, after he became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer behind Musiala at 17 years, 4 months and 4 days.
