Gregor Kobel comfortable at Borussia Dortmund despite interest from European clubs

Gregor Kobel is a leading player for Borussia Dortmund and is a candidate to replace Marco Reus as the club’s captain. His performances last season for the club has attracted attention from Europe’s top clubs but with three years remaining on his current deal, the 25-year-old is in no rush to make a decision on his future.

“I’ve always said that I feel comfortable in Dortmund. That hasn’t changed,” said Kobel. BVB would like to extend the contract of Kobel, which expires in 2026, not only to tie the Swiss international down for long but also to give the player an increased salary. As reported by Kicker, discussions are ongoing but a decision isn’t expected to be made before the start of the season.

Kobel’s performances last season were largely the reason why Borussia Dortmund were still in the race for the Bundesliga title come the final matchday. Despite missing seven Bundesliga games, Kobel recorded 11 clean sheets in 27 league games last season. With 32 goals conceded, Kobel stated that his aim was to concede no more than an average of one per game across the 34 Bundesliga matchdays, giving BVB a better chance of securing three points.

“That is a good goal because it increases our chances of winning the games,” added Kobel.
