With the end of a thrilling Bundesliga season fast approaching – and everything from the Meisterschale, to the European places and relegation still to be decided – it’s time to pick out this year’s best players.
As has always been the case, this year, the outcome will be decided by a mixture of you, the public, who will receive a 50% share of the vote and members of the GGFN team, who have nominated the individuals within the categories below.
The first of fifteen categories looks at the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga this year: Mark Flekken (Freiburg), Koen Casteels (Wolfsburg), Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund) and Frederik Rønnow (Union Berlin), all of whom have all had stellar campaigns.
Right-back nominations include perhaps two surprise candidates in Mitchell Weiser (Werder Bremen) and Kiliann Sildillia (Freiburg) while both Benjamin Pavard (Bayern Munich) and Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen) have impressed this season. Union Berlin’s incredible story continues and both Danilho Doekhi and Robin Knoche have been nominated, while Matthijs de Ligt has enjoyed an excellent first season in the Bundesliga and Micky van de Ven has been somewhat a breakout star.
At left-back, Raphael Guerreiro has had an incredible season at Borussia Dortmund, Jonas Hector continues to be Mr. Consistent and both Ramy Bensebaini and Angelino have an excellent shout.
In midfield, Jude Bellingham is on his way to lifting the Bundesliga title with Borussia Dortmund, Joshua Kimmich has been as excellent as ever and Ellyes Skhiri continues to impress in Cologne. Rani Khedira has also been key to Union’s success.
Two categories will be unlocked every day for you, our readers, to vote. Categories included range from crowing the best player in each position to under/overachieving teams in the Bundesliga as well as crowning your Breakout Player of the Year.
