FC Köln in discussions to sign Genk’s Rasmus Carstensen

Kicker have today confirmed Belgian reports that Bundesliga side FC Köln are in discussions to sign Rasmus Carstensen (22) from KRC Genk. The Danish youth international only joined the Belgian side last summer but has been unable to assert himself within the squad.

Carstensen made just four appearances across all competitions last season and with the departure of Kingsley Schindler, Köln are looking for a back-up to Benno Schmitz at right-back. With a contract at Genk until 2026, both permanent transfer or a loan with an option to buy are possibilities.

With one of the smallest budgets in the Bundesliga, Köln have been relatively quiet in the transfer market. The Billy Goats have signed Julian Chabot on a permanent transfer while Jacob Christensen and Leart Paqarada both arrived on free transfers. They’ve also completed the loan signing of Wolfsburg forward Luca Waldschmidt.

Timo Horn and Ellyes Skhiri have both left the club after their contracts expired, while Jonas Hector has retired with Florian Kainz being appointed as the club’s new captain.
