Speaking ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga game against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday afternoon, Edin Terzić gave a personnel update ahead of the crucial game, including a potential return for Marco Reus.
“Except for Thomas Meunier and Mateu Morey, all players are in training,” said Terzić. “Thomas, however, is already back in running training, which looks good. With Marco Reus, we are very confident that he will be in the squad on Sunday.”
Reus was injured in Borussia Dortmund’s 1-0 Revierderby win against Schalke on September 17 and missed two Bundesliga games before making a premature return against Union Berlin on October 16. That only aggravated Reus’ ankle injury further which resulted in missing a further two league games before returning against Bochum, only to go off after 23 minutes.
The Borussia Dortmund captain then missed the final two Bundesliga games of the season and although recovering, Reus has missed BVB’s two Bundesliga games to kickstart 2023 with an illness. After missing training earlier in the week, the 33-year-old is now expected to return.
As for Meunier, Borussia Dortmund signed Julian Ryerson from Union Berlin as a replacement for the Belgian, after it emerged the right-back could miss around six weeks, despite returning to running duties. Morey is also recovering following a long-term absence.
