Contract talks with Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer to begin soon

Kicker reports that contract talks with Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer are expected to begin soon, but Bayern Munich are in no rush when it comes to negotiations.

Both of the player’s contracts expire in 2024 after signing extensions two years ago, but due to Bayern’s policy of only offering players over the age of 30 one-year deals, both will likely receive only a year-long extension.

Neuer’s situation is a lot simpler compared to Müller’s. Talks with the 37-year-old are expected to begin at the end of the first half of the season. Bayern want to wait to assess Neuer’s fitness and performance post-recovery from his broken leg before contract extension talks begin.

While for Müller, although he will likely extend his contract beyond 2024 the 34-year-old is still unhappy with his recent role off of the bench. However, Müller understands that this is due to his age but he knows that he remains a key leader as well as identification figure for Bayern. With Müller’s reduced role, there were talks of the 34-year-old potentially retiring after Euro 2024 but the bosses at Bayern are confident that the club legend will extend.
