Champions League Preview | Union Berlin vs Napoli

Union Berlin will be looking to end their eight game losing streak in all competitions as they take on Napoli on matchday three of the Champions League group stage tonight.

The Bundesliga side are currently enduring a difficult season in the league as they currently sit 15th. In addition, they currently sit bottom of their Champions League group with zero points.

Their opponents Napoli currently sit 2nd in the group with three points after defeating Braga on matchday one.

The Italian side have also had mixed results recently as they have lost two of their last three league fixtures but just about currently remain in the Serie A top four.

Both sides enjoyed a massively successful campaign last season as Union Berlin qualified for the Champions League for the first-time ever by finishing in fourth place whilst Napoli won the Serie A for the first time in 33 years.

A win will be important for Napoli in order to ease the pressure from the manager Rudi Garcia whilst Union Berlin are in desperate need of a win to avoid serious danger of being eliminated from the competition.

Union Berlin will be without several players for this match due to injuries. This includes Alexander Schwolow, Andras Schafer, Laurenz Dehl, Josip Juranovic and Jerome Roussillon.

The positive news for Urs Fischer’s side is that Robin Knoche, Rani Khedira and Alex Kral all featured in Saturday’s match against Stuttgart after recovering from their fitness issues and all three players are expected to be available for tonight’s match.

Napoli will be without star striker Victor Osimhen for the next few weeks due to a thigh problem which he suffered whilst on international duty with Nigeria.

Juan Jesus and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa are also unavailable for Rudi Garcia’s side.
