Manu’s Game of the Week: Köln vs Borussia Mönchengladbach

My match of the week is the Rheinderby between Köln and Gladbach. As I have written on Gegenpressing this week, this is a game steeped in history and strong regional rivalry. That history and rivalry will fuel this match on the stands, on the pitch it will likely be one for the purists. Köln, in particular, have struggled this season and need all three points in order to fight off an early relegation warning. Gladbach are on a rebuild but the return of Manu Koné should be a huge boost for this side.

Stefan’s Game of the Week: Wolfsburg vs Bayer Leverkusen

My match of the weekend has to be the fascinating “El Plastico” between Wolfsburg and Leverkusen. Wolfsburg have become a formidable opponent at home in 2023 and will now face off against the best team in the division so far this season. It may not be the two most-supported clubs in the country, but it’s undoubtedly the heavyweight clash of the weekend. And yet another tricky test for Xabi Alonso’s team to overcome if they want to continue sitting top of the table.
