In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
Manu’s Game of the Week: Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Bayern Munich
My game of the week is the original Klassiker between Gladbach and Bayern Munich. Unlike the modern Klassiker between Dortmund and Bayern, Gladbach makes a game out of this one on a regular basis, which makes this game an intriguing fixture all on its own. But there is more to this game this time around. Bayern killer Yann Sommer is in goal for, well Bayern. It will be Jonas Omlin in goal for Gladbach this time around—Bayern financed that transfer for the Foals. That will be an intriguing story as well. Then there is Bayern’s reaction to the strenuous game against PSG. Either way, expect a fascinating fixture with plenty of story lines.
Manu’s Predictions:
- Augsburg 1-1 Hoffenheim
- Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-2 Bayern Munich
- Wolfsburg 1-3 RB Leipzig
- Bochum 1-2 Freiburg
- Stuttgart 0-2 FC Köln
- Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 Werder Bremen
- Union Berlin 2-1 Schalke
- Borussia Dortmund 3-0 Hertha Berlin
- Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 Mainz
Stefan’s Game of the Week: Wolfsburg vs RB Leipzig
While it may not be a classic in terms of history or fan support, “El Plastico” between Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig is undoubtedly a match between two exciting, attacking teams that need to turn their form around fast. Marco Rose’s side are probably the favourites for this clash, but rest assured that a point won’t do either team any favours and will likely be a contest between two teams desperate for all three points.
Stefan’s Predictions:
- Augsburg 1-0 Hoffenheim
- Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-3 Bayern Munich
- Bochum 1-2 Freiburg
- Stuttgart 0-2 FC Köln
- Wolfsburg 1-2 RB Leipzig
- Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 Werder Bremen
- Union Berlin 2-1 Schalke
- Borussia Dortmund 3-0 Hertha Berlin
- Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 Mainz
Scores after MD20: Manu – 122, Stefan – 103.
