Brentford had an offer for Dawid Kownacki rejected in January.

According to Sky Germany, Brentford FC had an offer for Dawid Kownacki rejected in January by Fortuna Düsseldorf.

The offer was around €2 million. It was likely rejected as Düsseldorf are currently chasing promotion and need Kownacki to spearhead their attack. The 26-year-old is to leave Düsseldorf in the summer as his contract expires. Kownacki has played 25 games for Düsseldorf this season scoring 12 and assisting seven.

However, a host of Bundesliga clubs are also interested in signing Kownacki. Union Berlin and Freiburg are currently the favourites in securing the signature of the 26-year-old, but Eintracht Frankfurt, Mainz 05 and Borussia Mönchengladbach are also interested in Kownacki.

Brentford’s current striker, Ivan Toney’s future is currently unknown as he is set to face punishment for a vast amount of betting-related incidences.

The signing of Kownacki would have been the second time Brentford have signed a player from the 2.Bundesliga as in 2020 they signed Vitaly Janelt from Bochum for €600k.
