Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Manu Koné unlikely to join Liverpool

As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Manu Koné looks ‘very unlikely’ to join Liverpool, at this stage.

Koné is said to be on the shortlist at Anfield due to his interesting profile, however, he is not a hot transfer target for the English side despite rumours of their interest. This may be due to the increasing reports linking Nice’s 22-year-old midfielder Khéphren Thuram to Merseyside, with the move edging closer to an agreement.

For Gladbach, Koné is certainly still up for sale as the Foals look to rebuild their squad after missing out on European football for a third successive season. Die Fohlen will demand more than €30m for their French midfielder but have yet to receive a concrete offer.

The French under-21 international has been a shining light for Gladbach in a season that has been difficult for everyone associated with the club. Koné was a key asset for the Foals, as without their dynamic midfielder winning more tackles than anyone else or progressing the ball more than any other player, Gladbach may have found themselves further down the Bundesliga table.

Nevertheless, Koné was able to help the side finish comfortably in the middle of the pack, but this is not where Die Fohlen want to be and former head coach Daniel Farke paid the price. Gerardo Seoane will be the man to steer the Gladbach ship from now on, however, whether that will be with Koné is unknown.
