As reported by Bild, Borussia Dortmund will be without three key players for their clash with Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday afternoon. A troublesome run of form for Dortmund has seen them fall behind in the title race this season, as the gap between them and their hosts on Sunday has become an almost unassailable ten points.
However, while Edin Terzić’s side would have been hoping to narrow the margin at the top of the Bundesliga when they travel to Leverkusen on matchday 13, three key injuries looks to have made their task significantly harder. BvB will be without Niklas Süle, Ramy Bensebaini, and Salih Özcan as Terzić’s domestic problems continue.
Nevertheless, the Dortmund head coach will be able to call upon those within his squad to step into the side. It is expected that Emre Can will keep his place in the squad after Tuesday’s victory in Milan due to Özcan’s absence, while Marius Wolf and Julian Ryerson will be deployed at full-back.
At times during his Dortmund career, Süle has been able to act as a makeshift right-back, and after Tuesday’s dismal display from Bensebaini, this could have been hoped upon. However, the former Bayern Munich defender has been unable to return to training.
Therefore, while Wolf is expected to depart Dortmund in the summer, Terzić will have to rely on the 28-year-old to deliver. Sunday could prove to be the end of Dortmund’s title ambitions, but it could also turn into the day they started to believe.
