Bayern Munich target West Ham’s Declan Rice to play number six role

Bild reports that Bayern Munich are interested in West Ham’s Declan Rice as a midfield option, as Thomas Tuchel wants another defensive midfielder.

Rice fits the profile of the type of midfielder Tuchel would like, he is tall, strong and has a good mentality. However, Rice could cost more than €80m as he has a contract until 2024 at West Ham but with an option of a further year which is likely to be extended. Bayern will also face competition from Chelsea and Arsenal who have both previously shown interest in the 24-year-old.

A move for Rice will mean Joshua Kimmich can be used in a more attacking role and will no longer be anchored to the defence. The 28-year-old has shown his attacking qualities this season and Bayern wants to get the best out of it, which is why a holding midfielder is now a priority.

What this means for Leon Goretzka is not yet known as the 28-year-old has struggled at times this season and no longer looks like the best partner for Kimmich.

Rice has been a part of the senior West Ham team since 2017. The 24-year-old is the captain of the team and has played 46 times this season.
