Anthony Modeste has signed for Egyptian side Al Ahly on a free transfer, the club has announced.
The Frenchman has been a free agent since his one-year contract with Borussia Dortmund expired this summer. The forward has been keeping himself fit in the meantime by training with Regionalliga side Fortuna Köln.
Modeste will join former FC Köln and VfL Bochum head coach Marcel Koller in Egypt.
Modeste will mostly be remembered for his time with Steffen Baumgart in Köln. During the 2021/22 season, the now 35-year-old scored an impressive 20 goals in 31 matches.
This led to the striker making the move to BVB following the diagnosis of Sébastien Haller. However, Modeste never quite got going at Dortmund and didn’t have his contract extended after the initial year.
The Egyptian Premier is due to kick off later in September, with Modeste potentially making his debut against Al Masry on September 18th.
