Alphonso Davies out with a hamstring strain

Bayern Munich have announced that left-back Alphonso Davies will be out for the time being with a hamstring strain.

The 22-year-old picked up the injury in Bayern’s 3-1 loss to Mainz on Saturday. Davies picked up the injury in the ninth minute pulling up after a run, and Noussair Mazraoui replaced him.

Davies has played 38 times for Bayern this season. Since the injury to Lucas Hernández, Bayern are not as well stacked at left-back as they are at right-back. The only two players that can play are João Cancelo who moved over to the left when Mazraoui replaced the injured Davies and Daley Blind who has only played five times since joining the club on a free transfer in January.

Bayern picked up their fourth defeat of the season against Mainz. They initially took the lead through Sadio Mané but in a similar manner to their 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim last weekend they then threw away their lead when Ludovic Ajorque equalised in the 65th minute. Leandro Barreiro and Aarón Martin would add to Mainz’s lead. The loss saw Bayern slip to second in the table as Borussia Dortmund beat Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0.
