Alexander Nübel will return to Bayern Munich this summer

As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Alexander Nübel will return to Bayern Munich this summer following his loan from AS Monaco.

Just a few months ago, there were talks between both clubs regarding a permanent deal for the goalkeeper. However, Nübel has rejected the offer to stay with Monaco. It’s become clear that the 26-year-old will return to Bayern in the summer. Whether he stays with his parent club for the new season depends on Manuel Neuer’s situation.

When Neuer broke his leg earlier this season, there was a possibility that Nübel would return to take the number one role. However, Bayern opted to keep Nübel at Monaco and sign Yann Sommer from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

This was partially down to goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic, who Nübel didn’t get along with. However, since his firing, the new goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner is a fan of Nübel and appreciates the qualities the 26-year-old possesses. The firing of Tapalovic has shown that Manuel Neuer is no longer untouchable and Yann Sommer and Nübel have realistic chances of being the number one next season.

Nübel has fallen out of favour with Monaco and will return to Bayern this summer. His next steps are unknown.
