A permanent stay at VfB Stuttgart is currently unlikely for Alexander Nübel

Sport Bild reports that any chance of Alexander Nübel staying at VfB Stuttgart permanently is unlikely as the club cannot compete financially with foreign teams.

Stuttgart would like to keep Nübel beyond next summer and when asked about Nübel’s future VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth said: “Of course, we will try to continue working with him beyond the summer. We are working on this topic, but of course, there are several parties involved in the negotiations” During his brief stay at the club, Nübel has developed into a leading player and has convinced the club with his performances.

However, financially it is not possible to keep Nübel at the club. If Bayern decides to sell Nübel in the summer, Stuttgart would be unable to compete with foreign clubs who can offer more money to the 26-year-old. Last summer, Crystal Palace were interested in bringing Nübel to the Premier League and even offered double the wages of Stuttgart but the goalkeeper opted to join the Bundesliga side.

If Manuel Neuer does not reach the same levels he had been performing at before he broke his leg, it is possible that Nübel still has a future at Bayern as he has shown he is a competent Bundesliga-level goalkeeper having played a key role in Stuttgart sitting third in the table heading into November.
