Wolfsburg in talks to sign Jeremy Toljan

Bild report today that Wolfsburg are in negotiations to sign Jeremy Toljan from Sassuolo.

The Serie A club want around €5m for the defender, who has three-years remaining on his current deal.

Toljan, formerly of Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund, played 20 league games for Sassuolo last season after making his move from BVB permanent last summer for €3.5m.

In his three years in Italy, Toljan has played 76 games for Sassuolo and can operate at both right-back and right wing-back.

Wolfsburg will allow Kevin Mbabu (27) to leave the club this summer with just one-year remaining on his current deal which could then fund a move for Toljan. Hertha Berlin had showed an interest in signing Mbabu but instead opted for the free signing of Jonjoe Kenny from Everton.

Toljan could potentially arrive in Wolfsburg as a replacement for Mbabu and competition for Ridle Baku as new head coach Niko Kovač looks to strengthen the defence. VfL are also in discussions to sign Mattia Viti from Empoli.
