UEFA Champions League PREVIEW | Eintracht Frankfurt vs Marseille

Eintracht Frankfurt host Olympique Marseille at the Deutsche Bank Park as Oliver Glasner’s side look to keep their hopes of at least making the Europa League alive. Only three points separate top from bottom in Group D, so the final two matchdays hold even more importance.

Frankfurt come into this game after beating Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1 at Borussia Park at the weekend, Frankfurt took an early lead through Jesper Lindstrøm before Eric Ebimbe doubled Frankfurt’s lead. Lindstrøm would then score again to give them a 3-0 lead going into half time. A Marcus Thuram goal would prove to be a consolation for Gladbach. In the Champions League, Frankfurt took a shock lead against Tottenham Hotspur in London before a Heung Min Son double and Harry Kane penalty put the game beyond die Adler – a Fardie Alidou late goal was unable to mount a comeback for Frankfurt.

Marseille lost at the weekend losing 1-0 to highflyers Lens in Ligue 1. In the Champions League they beat Sporting CP 2-0 with goals from Mateo Guendouzi and Alexis Sanchez, which put Marseille second in the group.

Frankfurt have shown they are able to match up with the better teams in this group having beaten Marseille before, while also drawing with Tottenham at home. They will be wanting to beat Marseille again as it will increase their chances of at least making it to the Europa League again. With the attack they possess and the form they find the players like Randal Kolo Muani, Lindstrøm and Kamada they have the fire power to overcome Marseille.

The previous game saw Frankfurt win 1-0 at the Velodrome in the south of France, with Lindstrøm’s goal proving to be the difference maker and gave them their only win in the group stage so far.
