BILD report that Taiwo Awoniyi is very likely to leave Bundesliga side Union Berlin in the summer with Newcastle United among the Premier League clubs interested in the 24-year-old striker.
West Ham United and Southampton have also shown significant interest with Awoniyi allowed to depart Stadion An der Alten Försterei for a reported transfer fee of around €30 million.
The Nigeria international made his loan move from Liverpool permanent in the summer for €6.5m and has scored 12 and created one in 25 Bundesliga games this season, giving Union a shout of European football.
Speaking to DAZN after Union Berlin’s 1-0 win against FC Köln on Friday night, Sporting Director Oliver Ruhnert said that €30m would be a sum that would send Union into a new dimension and would become their most expensive departure if Awoniyi was to leave.
